Testate amoeba, part 1 of 4

Group: Testate amoebae · Arcella, Difflugia, Centropyxis and relatives

What you see

Testate amoebae carry a shell; look for the opening from which the pseudopods come out.

Recorded on 20 July 2018. This loop is the 0:45–1:10 part of a 7:43 recording; the full recording is on Commons.

Points to check against your own sample:

  • A rigid shell with one opening; lobes of cytoplasm come out of it and pull the shell along.
  • Arcella: smooth, round, yellow to brown dome, seen from above as a disc with a central hole.

Other parts of the same recording: Testate amoeba, part 2 of 4, Testate amoeba, part 3 of 4, Testate amoeba, part 4 of 4.
